A hundred years ago, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, better known as Dadasaheb
Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, made his first feature film, Raja
Harish-chandra, which released in 1913. The film is commonly believed to
have been the first 'Indian' feature length film, which inaugurated an
'Indian' cinema. Phalke himself had stated that he had wished to see
Indian images on the screen (while he was watching the film Life of
Christ), and that his cinema was a swadeshi enterprise.
